Why using the Nokia 5800 Mobile Phone as a Handheld Terminal
The main reasons are because the Nokia 5800 mobile is very cheap to buy, runs the Symbian OS which is FREE, comes with an excellent camera for barcode scanning / picture capture as well as, has the ability to take signatures.
MAIN COMPONENTS OUTLINED EXPLAINED
Data Transfer and Server Security
Data is transferred to and from the Mobile Client using the most secure means (REST protocol using XML). Access to the Server Admin is locked down only allowing registered IP addresses in. Administrators are updated every 6 weeks to reset passwords and all user actions are tracked and logged.

Signature Capture
Field Operators can capture Customer Signatures on the Screen which are saved in high resolution format – once uploaded to the server admin these can be placed into invoices, delivery dockets, receipts.

Customer Address Mapped
Field Operators can bring up the drop off / customer point on a detailed map with zoom in/out functionality. From the server admin the same map can be viewed and edited.

Click to Call Facility
The Field Operator can click on the number to directly call the customer if needed. This does not affect his operation with the WIS Mobile Client Software.

Barcode Scanning
Field Operators can scan 2D barcode formats. These can be linked directly with product inventory to be updated with Job Status e.g. Delivered.

Picture Capture
If any error or problem exists the Field Operators can take pictures of the issue with the mobile client software. These pictures are stored in the server admin with timestamp – many pictures can be stored in any server admin account.

GPS Coordinates Capture
With the Location facility Field Operators can get the exact GPS coordinates at any time e.g. The product drop off point has not changed. This function can also be used to track the whereabouts a Field Operator is at any given time.

Office Notes – Two way saved chat
While out on a job Field Operators will need to get detailed information from the office but may also need to send back notes about an issue. With 2 Way chat Field Operators can pass vital information to and from the server admin. All these notes are saved with timestamps and who from in the system.

Job Status Updating
Currently the Job Status system has the following status codes -- In Storage, Requires Payment, Paid PreDelivery, Delivered, Collected, and Problem, still with Client – [these can be updates for any client] once the Field Operator or server admin updates this new job status, it becomes live to all who request it..
